The Brewery Project

We are Homes For Ulverston (H4US), a not-for-profit Community Land Trust. We are working to acquire several sites in the Ulverston area. The former Hartleys Brewery on Hart Street has been our focus for eighteen months.

Homes for Ulverston’s Brewery Project plans to build 32 homes on a site of unique historical interest, restoring existing buildings to Heritage England standard. The tenure mix shall be:

  • long-term affordable rented
  • owner-occupied, generating cross-subsidy capital
  • shared ownership, combined with rent-to-buy option in most cases

Who We Are

We are a Community Land Trust

Community Land Trusts (CLTs) are set up and run by ordinary people to develop and manage homes as well as other assets. CLTs act as long-term stewards of housing, ensuring that it remains genuinely affordable, based on what people actually earn in their area, not just for now but for every future occupier.

Community Involvement

The Brewery Project was put forward by members. Members’ knowledge of renewable energy, climate change action and design for wellbeing fed into the project drafts, as we co-created the finished plan. Those interested in living there created the plans by explaining to the architects what they wanted.
